PRIDE Orton-Gillingham Instruction

Why Choose PRIDE?

PRIDE Orton-Gillingham Method of Reading Instruction

PRIDE Learning Center employs the PRIDE Reading Program Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction. O-G as it is known, was developed specifically to teach struggling and non-readers how to read, write, spell and comprehend reading. While the program works with all students, it is especially successful for students with dyslexia, auditory and visual processing disorder, speech delays and ADHD.

Multisensory Learning Orton Gillingham

PRIDE students are taught spelling simultaneously with reading. Because each student has a different learning style, all lessons are taught by seeing, saying, moving, hearing and touching the concept being taught. This is known as multisensory teaching.

PRIDE Reading Specialists begin with the most basic elements of the English language. This includes the consonants and sounds of the consonants. As the students progress to short vowels, they begin reading and writing sounds in isolation. From there they progress to digraphs, blends and diphthongs.

Every lesson the student learns is in a structured and orderly fashion. The student is taught a skill and doesn’t progress to the next skill until the current lesson is mastered. As students learn new material, they continue to review old material until it is stored into the student’s long- term memory.

With each lesson, the student experiences confidence and success as they progress through the PRIDE program. The purpose of PRIDE O-G instruction is to provide the student with an understanding of language structure, which allows him or her to become an independent reader and writer.

PRIDE Reading Specialists are available through out California.  If you are a homeschooling parent or live outside of California, PRIDE Reading Program offers an at-home version you can teach yourself or purchase for use with your local tutor.   Click here if you are a homeschooling parent or live outside of California.

“PRIDE Learning Center has made such a huge impact on my family, I feel forever indebted and incredibly blessed to have experienced it. My daughter exhibited all the signs of a learning difference, but her schoolteachers were clueless, labeling her as lazy and inattentive. PRIDE helped to identify my daughter’s specific learning issues. Working with PRIDE’s team of gifted Reading Specialists allowed her to regain confidence in her ability to perform schoolwork. She enjoys every minute of PRIDE and always looked forward to her lessons.”

“Our daughter Brianna came to PRIDE when she was struggling with reading during 1st grade at our local public school in West Los Angles. At that point, she was near the bottom of her class and hated to read. After working with PRIDE’s excellent Reading Specialists and staff, Brianna is now ahead of her peers and, more importantly, enjoys reading. Brianna also looks forward to attending her PRIDE sessions and is proud of her accomplishments. We are lucky to have found PRIDE when we did, and I would highly recommend its program.”

“Excellent Program. I do Psychoeducational and Neuropsychological Assessments. I have seen a lot of progress with the children that have gone through PRIDE’s program. It is a great resource that specifically addresses reading difficulties with a multi-sensory approach. It is also important that the people giving the services are well-trained. I highly recommend PRIDE.”
